[Ecoed] Analysis of community data

This semester in my ecology lab I have had my students carry out a
community development experiment with leaf litter invertebrates. They
constructed leaf litter bags with leaf litter from which the invertebrates
had been removed and then placed the bags in the field. A subsample of the
bags were retrieved at different time points and the invertebrates were
extracted. They will then be identifying the inverts by general taxanomic
groups. I would like them to compare the communities within time periods
and across time, but was wondering what the best method would be (especially
since I'm not a community ecologist). My students are juniors and seniors,
but have little statistical background. So, I would like methods that they
could implement. Any and all suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Chris
