Charlene,
I taught this exact type of course for a January term class -- it was a hit! 
We used:
Microcosmos
Arachnophobia
Cane Toads
The Birds
The Yearling
The Lorax
Medicine Man
Out of Africa 
 
It was really fun to stimulate discussion about science communication.
Adding Inconvenient Truth as you mentioned would be really good for a recent 
opportunity,
and/or Happy Feet (just for diversity, to get in some animation!)
