NAAEE's Pre-Service Task Force is asking for your help as NAAEE moves
forward with developing EE standards to be adopted by the National Council
for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Our final EE standards will be
presented to NCATE next week! We expect them to be accepted based on NCATE's
response to the preliminary draft last year.

In anticipation of that acceptance, the Task Force is planning a workshop on
Thursday, November 15, at the NAAEE 2007 conference for university education
faculty who will be compiling reports to NCATE on how their programs meet
the EE standards we've developed. The Task Force specifically requested a
Thursday workshop to avoid conflicting with the Research Symposium,
believing that many faculty will be highly interested in attending both
sessions.

We are asking for your help in preparing for both the faculty NCATE
"compiler" workshop on Thursday and the Higher Education Commission meeting
on Friday, by sharing your examples of the following:

Model assessments. NAAEE's Writing Team for the NCATE EE standards
identified types of assessments that might be submitted for each of the
standards (e.g., scores on tests, student teaching observations, written
reflections). The institution will determine which assessments they want to
use and, more importantly, they will need to submit how they scored those
assessments. For example, if a program decides to use candidate portfolio
entries to show that they meet standard 3, they would also need to submit
the rubric they use to score the candidates. At our compiler workshop at the
conference, we would like to provide some examples of assessments, and give
the participants time to discuss how each one might be used to meet the EE
standards.

Please send your assessment examples to Sue Bumpous at NAAEE by October 24
(sbumpous at naaee.org).

Once we know who has signed up for the compiler training, we also will ask
them to bring examples of some of the assessments and scoring rubrics they
use for their other NCATE programs.

Model syllabi. During a pre-conference workshop last year, we presented
examples of several higher education programs. This year we would like to
facilitate a wider syllabus exchange among higher education commission
members. Examples of appropriate courses include environmental education
courses or other courses designed to integrate environmental education into
the college curriculum, such as science methods courses. Please bring
environmental science and environmental education syllabi for under graduate
classes and graduate courses on a flash drive or CD ROM to load onto a
computer that will be available at the Commission meeting. Samples will be
shared and posted on NAAEE's members-only web site.

Also, the Pre-Service Task Force will be giving a report on the status of
its work during the Higher Education Commission meeting at the conference.
That meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 16, from 4:45 p.m. - 6:00
p.m. In lieu of the traditional chili reception, we will meet at Abbey Road
Pub. Learn more at http://www.abbeyroadpub.com/

If you can't be at the meeting, you can send the syllabus to Sue by October
31 to include with the rest.

Thanks so much for your help. See you in Virginia Beach!
