Hello EcoEducators!
After working in Portland for a couple years, I left about one year ago and
have been volunteering, learning and traveling my way across Latin America.
About two months ago, I became a volunteer middle school science teacher at
a bi-lingual school in Honduras ( http://mayatanfoundation.org/foundation/).
Along with the countless fantastic aspects of being an EcoEducator, the
greatest obstacle has been the school's drastic lack of resources. Teaching
science, in English, to English learners is challenging enough, but doing so
without resources, visual aids, and simple lab equipment (ie...there are no
rulers) can be overwhelming!
So, I'm seeking your advice for ways to access low cost or donated
lab equipment and teaching resources (I have been told that the school's
administration is sitting on a small fund from a previous grant) and/or
potential avenues for acquiring more material specific funding.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I can be contacted by emailing nikkie.west at gmail.com
Cheers!
