For immediate release:
(July 7, 2008 Washington D.C.) - It happens at every conference.you're just
starting to get excited about an issue or you're working in small groups to
tease out a solution to a problem and.the session ends. If you want more
time to explore environmental education topics in depth, you'll find lots of
options at the 37th NAAEE annual conference in Wichita, Kansas, this
October. Registration is now open at
http://www.naaee.org/conference/registration/
You can choose from among 16 workshops that take place on Wednesday, October
15, or one on October 16. The variety kicks off an exciting week where 1,000
environmental educators will gather to pioneer new strategies for
environmental education.
We don't have room to feature them all, but here's a sample:
* Music and Arts - Build It and They Will Come, Part 2: Building on
last year's workshop, learn how a journal and a simple dulcimer that you
make yourself can enhance how you teach about the environment.
* Service-Learning: two separate workshops offer different ways to
teach about service learning that engages young people as catalysts for
long-term change while meeting state learning guidelines.
* Be the Best! What EE Resource Reviews Can Do for You: Learn to use
the Guidelines for Excellence to assess your EE resource and start an online
self-review (submission fees waived), or train to become a peer reviewer so
you can offer guidance to others.
* Environmental Magic: Tricks for Improving the Environment...just
like MAGIC! In 1994, two professional magicians created the Environmental
Magic Kit, winning EPA recognition for enhancing awareness of air quality,
water quality, and waste management. It's "Magic with a Message" and you can
learn it!
Look for the rest of the list at
http://www.naaee.org/conference/conference-workshops. These and hundreds of
shorter hands-on sessions offer many opportunities to enhance your EE
skills.
