For immediate release:
(June 16, 2008 Washington D.C.) -October 18 is Teacher Day at the NAAEE
Annual Conference. Teachers get the best of both worlds, access to education
resources through the annual Share Fair, and a taste of the regular NAAEE
conference through teacher-focused presentations designed specifically for
their needs. The one-day teacher registration also includes the Awards
Luncheon, with keynote speaker Jerome Ringo, president of the Apollo
Alliance, a coalition of labor, environmental, national security, civil
rights, and business leaders fighting to make America independent from
foreign energy.
Hands-on sessions like this one offer unique opportunities for personal
involvement:
* "Fueling the Future: Energy Interconnections and Sustainable
Choices" demonstrates interconnections between energy sources, human
choices, economic challenges, and environmental impacts. Includes free
curriculum.
Throughout the day are dozens of other sessions on how to make teaching more
effective using the environment as an integrating context for learning. Just
a sample:
* A five-person panel will demonstrate creative activities that
educators from across the nation are successfully using to introduce young
children ages 2-5 to nature.
* A symposium will consider ways to infuse key service- learning
elements into energy-oriented curricular materials, and will offer hands-on
classroom activities such as energy audits. Bring examples of energy
projects/curricula to share in informal working groups.
* The Greensburg School District will share how it is rebuilding its
physical structure and surrounding areas sustainably after being hit by a
tornado, integrating the reconstruction with education for students and
teachers alike.
NAAEE in cooperation with the Sierra Club will cover the cost of 20 students
age 16 or over who have a keen interest in an EE career to attend the
conference on Saturday. The students must be accompanied by a teacher, who
pays the regular one-day registration. For more information and to apply,
