Dear ESA Education List Serve community,

We will be offering a two day short course in Conservation
Biology Curriculum Design and Implementation on July 12-13, directly
before the annual meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB),
which this year take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 13-17. A
brief description of the course is appended below. We would like to
invite members of the ESA Education Committee to consider attending, and
also ask your assistance in disseminating information about this
opportunity to your colleagues.

It is important to note that while we are hoping to attract a
number of participants from developing countries, we also anticipate
that the course could be very useful for those engaged in program design
and needs assessments for conservation biology programs and courses in
developed countries. Within the US, we are particularly interested in
encouraging participation of faculty members at minority-serving
institutions (MSIs).

I am happy to discuss the course further by email, and would
greatly appreciate your assistance in disseminating the information
below.

	with best wishes,
	Nora Bynum

Call for Participants: Short course in Conservation Biology
Curriculum Design and Implementation at the 2008 meetings of the Society
for Conservation Biology (SCB)

Would you like to learn more about developing conservation
biology programs, teaching materials or needs assessments? Would you
like to share your experiences with others from across the world
involved in the same processes? We are convening a short course called
Technical Support for Needs Assessment and Curriculum Design and
Implementation in Conservation Biology from July 12-13, just before the
annual meetings of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), in
Chattanooga, TN, USA, and are seeking participants.

The first day of the course will focus on technical tools for
designing and implementing conservation biology programs and courses,
including convening stakeholders to design and implement programs,
elements of academic program design, pedagogy and cross- cultural issues
in teaching conservation, and designing and interpreting needs
assessments. On the second day of the course, participants will meet
with experienced resource faculty individually or in small groups and
have the opportunity for practical work addressing the needs of their
own programs in developing and carrying out needs assessments and
program and course design.

Prospective participants should sign up for the short course
through the SCB website
(http://www.conbio.org/activities/meetings/2008/) at the time of
registration, and can contact the course facilitators with any
questions. Cost for the two-day course is $45 for those from developing
countries, and $90 for those from developed countries. Please note that
there is no general funding to cover costs for participants; however,
international course applicants should check with individual SCB
sections to see if any funds may be available to support participation.
Course instructor contacts: Eleanor Sterling, SCB Education Committee
Chair (sterling at amnh.org), Nora Bynum, ANA Section Education Director
